Complete-mix  Anaerobic  Digester

Biogas consists of methane and carbon dioxide which is produced during the fermentation of organic matter (hydrogen sulfide and ammonia also occur). These gasses are very aggressive and decompose numerous materials, including reinforced concrete, in a comparatively short time. NorthEast Biogas systems are constructed from high grade stainless steel in an above ground, modular design to resist degradation, maintain system integrity and extend system life.

The modular construction also facilitates the custom manufacture of individual plants designed to meet local requirements and the availability of input substrates. A typical biogas plant might consist of a large digester tank (84’ diameter, 850,000 gallon capacity) with additional substrate storage tanks, pumps and agitators, plus systems for process monitoring and control.

All systems are fully automated and the digestion process is closely monitored to ensure control and optimization. Using a proprietary SCADA system, all inputs are measured and activities in the digester are monitored. Using a series of sensors to check key variables including gas quality, temperature and PH levels an operator is able to optimize the digestion process to maximize the biogas yield. Proactive monitoring enables process and substrate adjustments to be made and comparative data gathered from similar projects enables trending to be used to predict the process and allow proactive management.

The roof is a double skin, floating dome constructed from ultraviolet resistant material with a guaranteed 20 year life. As biogas is produced in the digester the internal membrane pushes against air trapped between the two roof layers to provide adequate room for gas storage and to provide a constant pressure which enables the gas to flow out to the generator.

In a typical biogas operation the biogas will be burned in a generator (gen set) to produce electricity and heat. NorthEast Biogas offers gen sets manufactured by Dreyer and Bosse a German manufacturer, which has exclusively manufactured engines for biogas production for more than 10 years.

Lagoon Cover Technology

Some farm operations lend themselves to the installation of a lagoon cover to facilitate the capture and combustion of methane. NorthEast Biogas is able to design and install a patented covered lagoon solution to meet a variety of customer needs.
